Parshas Behar & Bechukosai – בהר-בחקתי

This week is a double parsha – Parshas Behar and Bechukosai. The mitzvos of shmittah and yovel are discussed, in which we are commanded to leave our fields un-plowed and not harvested for a year once every 7 years and again at the end of 7 cycles – once every 50 years.

We made cupcakes with green sprinkles to represent the fields and placed candy fruit on them to represent the fruit left out in the fields for anyone to take.

1- We made a batch of chocolate cupcakes

Chocolate Cake
2 C flour
2 c sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/3 c cocoa
1/2 c oil
1 1/3 c water
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
Add all together and mix well
Pour into cupcake tins
Bake at 350 until a toothpick poked in the center comes out clean
2- Once cooled ice cupcakes with a mixture of powdered sugar, cocoa, and water.
3- While the icing is still wet, dip each cupcake into the green sprinkles.
4- Place candy fruit on top.

  1. Hooray! We got a sample to see/taste :). With a lot of self control I managed to put them away for Shabbos. SL is already calculating which fruits she will “pick” 🙂
