Parshas Korach – קרח

Parshas Korach – קרח

Parshas Korach discusses the incident of Korach and his rebellion. Korach together with Dassan, Aviram and On ben Peles gathered a group of people together to rebel against Moshe and Aharon. They were jealous of people which held positions which they felt were unjustly allotted to them. As a punishment, a miracle occurred and the ground opened up and swallowed Korach, Dassan and Aviram with some of their family members.

1- Make a batch of sugar cookies in the shape of little people. I was able to find a tiny person cookie cutter, but if you cant find one, just cut them out with a knife.

Sugar Cookies
1 c sugar
1 c shortening
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
3 c flour
Combine all ingredients and mix well, refrigerate for 20 min then roll out, cut shapes, and bake in pre-heated oven at 375 for 10 min
2- Make a bundt or tube pan cake. We used this orange cake, but any will do.

Orange Cake
3 3/4 c Flour
2 1/2 c Sugar
1 Tbsp Baking Powder
2 Sticks Margarine
1 tsp Salt
1 C Orange Juice
2 Tbsp Orange Rind
4 eggs
Bake at 350 for 65 mins

3- Make chocolate glaze and pour over the cake.

Chocolate Glaze
3 Tbsp boiling water
3 Tbsp Cocoa
3 Tbsp oil
1 C powdered sugar
4- Stick the cookies at varying angels “sliding” into the center of the cake.
