Parshas Re\’eh – ראה

The mitzvah of keeping meat and dairy separate is one of the many halachos/mitzvos reviewed in Parshas Re\’eh. We are commanded not to cook, eat, or derive any benefit from a dairy and meat mixture.

We made cookie “cheeseburgers” (don\’t worry, it\’s not the real thing) to show the issur.

1- We made a batch of butterscotch cookies for the bun

Butterscotch cookies
1 1/2 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 c margarine
2 c brown sugar (dark)
2 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 c ground walnuts
Cream margarine and sugar, mix in rest of ingredients. Chill for 20 min, then split into 3 or 4 sections and roll into logs, wrap with wax paper and chill for 2-3 hours. Slice and bake on 350 for 10-12 min.
2- We made a batch of chocolate fudge cookies for the burger

Chocolate Fudge Cookie
12oz Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate
2 c flour
3/4 c cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 sticks margarine
1 1/2 c brown sugar (dark)
3 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
Melt chocolate, cream margarine and sugar then add the rest of the ingredients (including melted chocolate). Drop by spoonful onto greased cookie sheet, bake at 300 for 10-15 min (they do spread).

3- Flatten out a white taffy very thinly for the cheese so it looks like its a bit melted.
4- Flatten out a red taffy to a small red disk for a tomato
5- Rip up pieces of green fruit roll up for the lettuce.
